Tomeholder

Terms of Use

The agreement between you and the people who make Tomeholder.

1. Who we are

Tomeholder is made and run by Quiet Compass LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. Its registered office is at 8 The Green, Suite B, Dover, Delaware 19901, and its registered agent there is Northwest Registered Agent Service, Inc. In these terms, "we" means Quiet Compass LLC and "you" means the person using Tomeholder.

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you create an account or use Tomeholder. Our privacy policy explains what we store and why; please read it alongside these terms. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use Tomeholder.

2. Your writing is yours

Everything you write or upload in Tomeholder belongs to you. That includes worlds, entries, notes, drafts and images, including where they appear in the documents you export. We claim no ownership of it, and nothing in these terms changes that.

To run Tomeholder, we need your permission to store your work, copy it into backups and earlier versions, and send it back to you. That covers showing it in the app and typesetting it into the PDFs you ask for. Our software also processes it automatically to run the features you use, for example counting your worlds and entries against your edition's limits and checking an archive is readable before restoring it. You give us that permission only for those purposes, and it ends when your work is deleted (see section 8) and any remaining backup copies expire, as the privacy policy describes.

We promise that:

Our hosting providers, named in the privacy policy, store your work for us and may use it for nothing else.

You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. Don't upload images or text that belong to someone else unless you have their permission or the law allows it.

As far as the law allows, if someone makes a claim against us because something you uploaded infringes their rights, or because you broke these terms, you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including legal fees. We'll tell you about any such claim promptly and let you take part in responding to it.

3. Your account

You need to be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy the full archive. An account is for one person. Give a real email address: it's how you reset your password and how we reach you about your account.

Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens in your account, so tell us at support@tomeholder.com if you think someone else has got into it.

If we gave you a license key, it's for your own account. Please don't share it, sell it or publish it.

4. Free and the full archive

Tomeholder has a free edition and a full archive, which you unlock with a one-off payment. There is no subscription.

The full archive is yours for as long as we run Tomeholder. It isn't time-limited, and it doesn't depend on a subscription. It covers the features listed above and the improvements we make to them. We may offer separate new products or paid add-ons in future; if we do, they won't take away anything you've already paid for, except as section 9 describes.

Some limits apply to everyone to keep the service running well, such as the size of a single image or how much can be uploaded in a day. If you reach one, the app tells you.

Closed beta. From 18 October to 8 November 2026, Tomeholder is in a closed beta for invited testers. During the beta, features may change quickly and faults are more likely, so please download your archive often. If you joined with a beta license key, you keep the full archive after the beta ends, on the same terms as someone who bought it. The key is for your account only (see section 3). Because you didn't pay for it, the refunds in sections 5 and 7 don't apply to it. Nothing you write during the beta is deleted when it ends.

5. Paying, and refunds

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells the full archive to you as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt, under its own buyer terms. We never see your card details.

The price is the one shown at checkout, in the currency shown there.

Refunds. If the full archive isn't right for you, ask within 14 days of buying for a full refund. Write to support@tomeholder.com or use the link in your Lemon Squeezy receipt. This doesn't affect any right to a refund you have under the law where you live.

If a purchase is refunded, your account goes back to the free edition. Nothing you've written is deleted, and you can still download all of it. You just can't use the full archive's features or add more than the free edition allows.

6. Using Tomeholder fairly

Tomeholder itself, including its code, design, themes, music, sample worlds and name, belongs to Quiet Compass or the people who licensed it to us. Its artwork was made with an AI image tool and its typefaces are open-licensed fonts; you may use both as part of Tomeholder and in what you export. We give you a personal permission to use it, under these terms, for your own writing and worldbuilding. That permission can't be transferred.

Please don't:

What you make with Tomeholder is unaffected: your exported documents are yours to publish, sell or share however you like, themes and all. The built-in artwork was generated with AI, so others may use similar images and we can't give you exclusive rights in it. If you need art that's yours alone, upload your own cover image.

If you send us ideas or suggestions about Tomeholder, we may use them freely, without owing you anything. This covers feedback about the app, not your writing, which stays yours.

7. Keeping your work safe

Your writing never gets locked in. Settings → Download your archive gives you all of it, images included, in a format other tools can read. It's there whenever you want it, on the free edition too.

We take care to keep your work safe. Your browser keeps a copy, our servers keep a copy, and we keep earlier versions and regular backups, as the privacy policy describes. Even so, no online service can promise that nothing will ever be lost. Please download your archive from time to time and keep the file somewhere of your own.

If we ever close Tomeholder, we'll tell you by email and in the app at least 60 days before. Downloading your archive will keep working until the day it closes. If you bought the full archive within the 12 months before we announce the closure, we'll refund the price you paid, reduced by one-twelfth for each full month between your purchase and the announcement. If something outside our control makes 60 days' notice impossible, we'll give as much notice as we can.

8. Ending your account

You can leave at any time. Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account and erases your archive and images. You don't need to ask us. Copies in our backups expire on the schedule the privacy policy gives. Download your archive first if you want to keep it, because once deleted we can't bring it back. Deleting your account doesn't by itself refund a purchase (see section 5).

We can suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Unless the law or the nature of the problem prevents it, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to download your archive. If we close an account because it broke these terms, no refund is due, except where the law requires one.

9. Our limits

We work hard to keep Tomeholder running well, but we provide it as it is and as available. We can't promise it will always be available, or free of faults. We may change or improve features over time. We won't remove a feature you paid for without telling you and offering a fair alternative or refund.

As far as the law allows, we make no warranties beyond those written in these terms, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable, such as lost profits or lost opportunities. Our total responsibility to you for anything related to Tomeholder is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem and US$50.

Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can't be limited by law. That includes, for example, responsibility for fraud. It also leaves untouched any rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.

10. Changes, law and contact

Changes. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app and by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can download your archive and delete your account before then. Small fixes, like typos or clearer wording, may happen without notice. The date below always shows the latest version.

Talk to us first. If you have a problem with Tomeholder or these terms, write to support@tomeholder.com and give us 30 days to put it right before starting any legal claim. Most problems can be sorted out this way.

Law. These terms are governed by the law of the State of Delaware. Disputes go to the state and federal courts located in Delaware. If you're a consumer, you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live, and you keep the protections of your local law.

Contact. Questions about these terms go to support@tomeholder.com.
